BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT: THE 7VNTH LASH
Breionne Jackson is the owner of The 7vnth Lash company, which is a premier beauty spa that specializes in the retail of 100% mink strip eyelash extension in Atlanta, Georgia.
We got the chance to talk to Breionne about her brand and the entrepreneurial skills that turned her passion into a business.
I have to ask, what was the inspiration behind your brand and the name?
I went to school to be an esthetician which I then was certified, while in school I also picked up a lash class. I’m all about makeup and glam but I love the business side of things as well. So, some of the things that came into play when coming up with my business name and inspiration to do a lash company were the product, which opens you up to a whole market of people that are not in my area. Seven is a recurring number in my life, my name has seven letters, I’m born on the 7th day of October, and I’m from the 7th ward in New Orleans.
How hard was it to get your business up and running off the ground?
It was hard initially, I didn’t have any funding at all. The formula I go by is if I don’t have the money for something right now I will do the things I don’t need any money for first.
What advice would you give to aspiring business owners and entrepreneurs?
To NETWORK, NETWORK and more NETWORK! I think we forget to network especially as young black women entrepreneurs, sometimes we look at competition as a negative thing. If you let collaboration outweigh competition then you win both ways I believe. Collaboration can help both people grow and instead of looking at the next person as competition. Collaboration can be used as a tool to help individuals grow.
Do you think social media marketing has had more positive effects or negative effects on business brands?
It is very important, there is an entire formula to it, which you can use to help your business and brand become very successful. You are not just posting pictures you have to be able to translate your social media into residual revenue and audience growth for your company.
Can you point to a moment or a time where you realized, “Wow this is really something I’m going to do!”?
When I launched the online store I actually got orders the first week! I was like wow these are not my friends supporting me, these are people that are from different cities who don’t know me at all. It was small, but it happened and I did it on my own.
What kind of impact do you hope to one day make in the world?
I want to start a nonprofit to help and mentor teenage girls from ages 14 years old -17 years old. As much as I see the positive effects of social media, I also see the negative which I think my nonprofit could help with guidance. Like a big sister that’s relatable.
What is your definition of a womanpreneur?
A woman who is business minded, who circulates the business industry or whatever industry she is in and being able to succeed in that industry. I think being a womanpreneur is really going to become more common than it ever has before, because of so many women are stepping up in all aspects and changing how things are being done.
What is your motto? Is there something that you live by every day?
One of the positive affirmations I try to tell myself every day is to remain open-minded. I try not to box myself into things, I don’t ever want to limit myself.
